Lake Worth

1/29- Jensen Beach to North Palm Beach (Lake Worth)

We took off in the morning after a nice stay in Jensen Beach into a fairly brisk breeze. Thankfully it was a north wind and while it was chilly (50 degrees) it was behind us. Again the color changes of the water is amazing. As we went by the Port Lucie inlet the water turned emerald green before gradually turning turquoise. The farther away we got from the inlet the greener and then browner the water got. Once we hit the Jupiter inlet same thing, we pushed through some of the most beautifully colored water.

Speaking of Jupiter inlet we had a bit of trouble there this afternoon. We made a turn after the Route 707 bridge expecting to find the Jupiter Federal bridge as it appeared on our chart plotter. Lo and behold it had been torn down and there was construction work on building a new bridge. The Bob423 track we had been following would have taken us right into a barge. We figured it out but it was very confusing for a while as there is a lot of different stuff happening there.

We went through 7 different draw bridges today. Amazingly we only had to wait 20 minutes at one. The rest either opened as we sailed up to it or we had to only slow down for a couple of minutes.

The area we traveled through today, especially the Jupiter Island area just oozes money. There are monster mega million dollar yachts parked out in front of monster mega million dollar homes. Some of the yachts were almost as big as the houses. It would be one thing if it was just a random yacht/home but this ostentatious display of wealth went on for miles. You might as well have just stacked bales of money on the banks of the river. That being said it was kind of pretty to look at and better to view than junks.

We ended up in the north end of Lake Worth anchored amongst 50 other boats or so. Last year when we visited our friends Joe and Nancy here there might have been 5 or 6 boats in the anchorage. I guess the weather windows to the Bahamas have been few and far between and the boats are getting all stacked up. We have heard reports of hundreds of boats waiting to make the jump over to the Islands. People we have talked to have been waiting weeks for a chance to head over and there does not appear to be any good windows in the near future.

We had just got settled down after anchoring and we looked up to find we were anchored right next to our friends Sam and Sarah on Blue Tango. We first met them back in Elizabeth City and have since run in to them in a couple of other places. That is the great thing about the ICW is you keep running into people you have met. In fact as we were leaving this morning friends we met back at Cape May in New Jersey showed up and contacted us. We just keep bounding over people and the they bound over us. It’s kind of like shuffling cards, you never know which one will pop out.
