 3/30- Titusville to Daytona

It was finally a quiet morning. For the past two nights I feel like I have been riding a bucking bronco. First it was a southeast blow that wasn’t that strong but the anchorage was totally exposed to the south so it got a bit rough. Then it switched around and blew really hard out of the north. The boat bounced around all night so I was glad when last night turned out to be fairly mellow.

We normally don’t like to move on weekends but we were getting a break with the winds so we thought we should take advantage. Well now we know why we don’t travel on the weekends. I think every boat in Florida was out today. We saw all different kinds of floating contraptions. I normally don’t like to make a big deal about wakes but by the end of today I was just plain tired of being bounced around. Can you say torpedo!!??

We anchored in the Halifax River just down from downtown. I expected a couple of boats in here but there are about twenty boats spread out over this hole in the river. Most of the river is very shallow (2-3 feet) except for the dredged channel, but there is an area of charted depths of 10-15 feet. Well when we got in there and dropped the anchor it turned out to be more like 6 feet. My anchor is in 7 feet of water right on the mark on the chart saying 14. We did get stuck a bit but got right off. One thing I’ve noticed is that when you look up the tides for this area the tide stations are all on the ocean. The river here has current that flows in the tide direction but has very little tide. The timings are usually not very accurate either except around the inlets. As the wind has died off the boat now aligns with the current which puts it sideways to what little wind there is.

We only plan to be here one night and then move on. I sort of forgot this is a holiday weekend also. Anyway we want to wish everyone a Happy Easter!
