We are back
4/5-Sisters Creek to Fernandino Beach
Today was a perfect example of an ICW day. We left this morning slogging into a pretty good current. We were doing about 3.5 knots and the suddenly we are doing 7.5 knots and then again back down to 4 and then up to 7 etc etc. Every time you go by an inlet depending on what the tide is doing you either slowdown or speed up. It was a shorter day for us of only about 20 miles as we were hoping to get a mooring. It turns out that there were plenty of empty moorings when we got here. It was certainly a lot calmer than the last time we were here. Last time we waited out a big frontal system that lasted 4 days. We were here almost a week but couldn’t get off the boat for most of those days.
This time we had a nice walk through town. It is a cute little town with lots of historic architecture but it is not as crowded as St Augustine. After the debacle of moving last Saturday we will sit tight here and see what the town has to offer. The current does rip through here and if there’s any wind it pushes the boat sideways which can make it uncomfortable. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen again.
There are two large paper mills here which are all lit up all night. It is fun to see all the lights on the horizon also. It is much flatter here and with the large marshes you can see a long ways.
It’s also supposed to get a little chilly tonight as it may get down into the 40’s. Just a reminder that we don’t want to get too far north too soon.
