Cape Dory
5/11- St Michaels
Yesterday was cold and rainy and the east wind continued to slap away at the stern of the boat. We even turned the heater on which made the cabin nice and cozy. Our friends Joe and Nancy drove up and we chatted and went to lunch. We were here for a Cape Dory rally and so far no one but us had shown up.
Eventually a CD 330 came and then Thad the organizer showed up. We had a couple of more CD 36’s pull in later. We all got on the dock and started talking CD’s. We all then made our way over to the bar and had some dinner.
Saturday dawn crystal clear. I guess the northern lights last night must have burned up some of the clouds. All the captains got together on the dock and we talked and compared and chatted and took tours of each other’s boat. Several people had shown up without boats and were full of questions. It was a good time getting to meet some of these folks who I have chatted with online but never met. We ended up with 6 CD 36’s and a 30 in port.
We met up with a childhood friend of Alayne’s and her husband while the rest of the crew went off to a bar. Alayne and her friend reminisced over their shared childhood experiences as we ate dinner.
It was a very pleasant day with ample sunshine and very little wind. There was a wedding happening on the grounds and another one next door. Someone must have had their prayers answered as far as the weather was concerned. There was plenty of activity in the museum with all the wedding preparations and then all the people showing up in their fancy duds.
As the weather looks awkward for tomorrow with northwest to north wind and periods of rain, we will plan to stay here another night. We had originally planned to stop off in Annapolis for a night but I think we will just head straight to Swans Creek instead. I think 5 of the 6 boats that came were from Rock Hall and Swans Creek. I’m hoping Monday will be a much nicer sail.
