Oxford
5/25- Trippe Creek, Tred Avon River , Oxford MD
What was supposed to be an easy departure didn’t go so well. We were preening ourselves because of the way we backed the boat into the slip theoretically making it a piece of cake to leave. We even called the marina guys over to help us and it still got all screwed up. As we left the slip the wind blew the bow down and we couldn’t turn enough to head into the wind so we tried to reverse and of course that just made it worse. After bouncing back and forth while sliding down the slipway we finally got the bow around and got out of there. The marina guys are probably having a pretty good laugh about it.
To make our day even better we got out to the first buoy and promptly ran aground. 2000 miles we sailed to Florida and back and here we run aground. Fortunately it was good old Maryland mud and Mr Perkins got his dander up and pushed us off.
We motored up past Oxford to a nice anchorage at Trippe Creek. This is a large bowl in the river. The thing I forgot about was this being a holiday weekend and this big bowl was a magnet for water skiers. Boats buzzed around us all afternoon and I think every powerboat in Maryland went up the river today. I’m just kidding I think everyone should have fun on the water.
This shoreline is lined with some serious McMansions. There is one here with 4 chimneys and a bunch of columns out front. It did turn into a fine anchorage after dark and it should be a nice quiet night.
