7/27- Rockland ME
Today was mostly a carbon copy of yesterday. I got up early and went over to work with the lobster fest folks. I did a lot of odd little jobs today as I think they were having trouble thinking of stuff for me to do. It’s an interesting group of people as they are obviously mostly locals. Many of them have volunteered at this festival for years, some as many as 30 years. They all know each other and it’s like a big family reunion.
Now that I’ve had an inside look it is tough to realize that festivals like this have seen their glory days. Tradition is probably the biggest thing keeping it going. They say it used to be that nobody in the state would schedule anything for this weekend but now there are many other activities to choose from. Portland has a big outdoor concert this weekend and another town has scheduled their county fair.
Still it will be plenty crowded which means we won’t be anywhere near here. Our annual Cape Dory cruise gets underway just in time to get outta town.
