Mullin Head

8/12- Mullin Head, North Haven ME

We tried to go sailing this morning but after getting all the sails up we were barely doing 1 knot. If fact because of the current in the thorofare we were actually going backwards. So we called on Mr Perkins once again.

Once we got out of the thorofare and the wind picked up I thought maybe we could sail but by that time we were only 1 1/2 miles from our destination.

Mullin Head is a park that was given to the town in lieu of back taxes by the farmer who lived here. There is not much here except for a bunch of dirt roads crisscrossing the peninsula. It does however have a nice stone beach and is well protected from any south winds. The nice thing here is tonight is the Perseid meteor showers and it is dark here. This is one of the few places where I can see minimal houses on shore. In fact of the seven lights I can see (I counted them) three are sailboats anchored in various coves and one was a couple camping on the beach.

Speaking, literally, of the couple on the beach we could easily hear there conversation from a half mile away. It always amazes me how sound travels over the water. And once they left it gets really quiet and you can hear yourself think.

It seems that Perry Creek is getting a little overrun with a bunch of new moorings so this place may be a welcome respite. The view of the islands north of here is really stunning also. Look up tonight and I hope no one has a meteor land on them.
