2/5- North Palm Beach to Jensen Beach
We headed out under the cover of considerable cloud cover this morning. The forecast called for light rain showers all day and it did not disappoint. It took a while to get the anchor up as the chain was filled with mud. So was I by the time I finally got it secured. In reversing our track we now had to go back through the seven drawbridges. Fortunately we timed them all pretty well. We did have trouble at one though. I had tried numerous times to hail the bridge tender on the radio but I got no response. Turns out the near by bridge operator called him to let him know we were there. Apparently he had turned down his radio to make a call and forgot to turn it back on. He apologized profusely for delaying us.
It was a cloudy day so we did not get to see the brilliant water colors like last time. We did have a pod of dolphins swim with us for quite a while. Again they seem to enjoy playing with our rudder this time actually knocking it out of my hands.
The weather is going to turn nasty tonight and I can hear the rigging screaming already. We are moored in the lee of a bridge here at Jensen Beach as the wind is going to howl out of the north. There are a bunch of boats here that we know amazingly enough. Lee and Wendy on Furthur, Kris and Mike on Galileo who we met in Titusville, and Mike and Carla on Let’s Sea. The wind is forecasted to get into the 30-35 knot range by tomorrow afternoon so it’s likely we will not even be able to get off the boat. It’s OK as we are well provisioned. I just hope it doesn’t get too bouncy.
