Vero

 2/9- Vero Beach

We did some Vero things today like taking the free bus to do some shopping. In the afternoon Gerry and Anne invited us on their trawler to take a ride on the ICW. They were having trouble getting pumped out here as the pump out boat suffered a catastrophic failure the other day. The pump at the dock was not working properly either so we tooled down the river to Loggerheads Marina which was about 5 miles away. It was interesting watching him maneuver his boat into a place I would have been scared to enter. We went for a little trip down the river as it was a nice day. It was fun seeing how the other half cruised.

A lot of folks took advantage of the narrow window to cross to the Bahamas today. The trouble is with so many people heading over they run out of places to stay once they get there. This becomes dangerous because then people are anchoring in exposed places and when the window closes they are trapped in a bad situation. We have heard of several boats being damaged and lost in the last storm.

The weather this year has not been great here in Florida. Apparently an El Niño is taking place causing a continuous series of cold fronts to sweep across the state. This causes cooler temps and bigger winds from odder directions. Still it’s better than being drenched in California.
