Party time

 8/15- Rockland ME

We were just hanging out on the boat this morning when we got the call. Our new mainsail was ready and they would deliver it. We hustled in and met up with Robin’s mom and got our new sail and our old one.

The other reason we were coming in today was a party at Knights. It was a celebration of Murf’s and Dale’s birthdays as well as a welcome back for Jerome. We had burgers and cake out on the patio at Murf’s shack.

We then borrowed a cart and wheeled our old sail up to the SeaBag store. It was funny pushing a cart filled with a sail through downtown Rockland. They will give you a new bag in exchange for your old sail. We opted to get a bag made with the Cape Dory logo cut from our sail.

Now we finally brought the new sail back out to the boat. Thankfully the wind was with us and decided to lay down while we bent on the sail. Unfortunately every motor boat in Maine decided to drive by us and we bounced all over the place in the wakes. Regardless we muscled through and the new sail is on the boat. As dark was approaching we held off going sailing. Furling a new sail is like trying to bend plywood. I’m not sure we could get the sail cover on if we tried. Hopefully it unfurls nicely and we can make the boat go.

It turns out that the old sail was 15 years old and we had used it hard the last 7 years so it was really time. Also I had ripped a reef point out trying to raise it last year and just the other day I pulled a section of the leech edge off without much effort. I guess that sail didn’t owe us anything and now it’s time to move forward into the future.
