Rockland
7/9- Rockland ME
The rest of our trip went pretty well. With the forecast of east wind we took off early. It was light at first but the wind eventually came around and once we cleared the buoy at the end of the harbor it was right behind us. I tried a bunch of things to get the jib working but finally just retired it. With just the main up we were doing 4.5 knots. We cruised through the dreaded Casco passage with no problem and turned up into the Eggemoggin Reach. I poled out the jib and put a preventer on the main as the wind was directly behind us. This worked for a bit but we had to adjust course around some buoys and again we just rolled up the jib. We cruised right up to Bucks Harbor where we took a mooring.
This must be the magnet place for Cape Dories as there were 3 right in a row on moorings and at least 3 or 4 others in the harbor. It was a pretty quiet night and morning.
We left a little early and just sat for a couple of hours. The picked up a bit and we sailed up to Great Spruce Island. When we tacked here we ended up going backwards so on came the motor. The wind never amounted to anything the rest of the day as we motored into the Rockland flytrap again. We’ll see how long it takes us to get out of here this time.
